PRODUCER / SIDEMAN CREDITS

I had the opportunty to date to have worked with some great musicians and artists, some of which have left a great imprint of musical and personal experiences that will never be forgotten.

I added a few sidebars to bring a little insight into the workings of those relationships, musicially and otherwise to hopefully make the reading more engaging.

In the last several years, more time was spent hiring guys for my own projects, as well as developing up and coming jazz artists who didn't have deals as a way of 'giving' back to my peers and the arts.

*

1988 - Browne, Tom - No Longer I
Arranger, Keyboards, Drum Programming, Keyboard Programming
One of first Gospel-Jazz Recordings in History. TB had an incredible vision to take his spiritual backdrop and add jazz harmony to the mix and with that, he was way ahead of the game
but the church community wasn't ready for a jazz cat to come into their church house and get busy with
those jazz tones.
Years later, the great Kirk Whalum had all fhe timely makings to penetrating
that market along with South Africa's Jonathan Butler, who have made places like
TBN a place in which to share that experience.

*

1989 - Urbaniak, Michal - Urban Express

Mike is a great violinist from Poland who lived in NYC at the time.

*

1988 - SOS All-Stars - New York Rendezvous

CD Recorded with Dave Weckl and Al Orlo
Weckl's skills were so incredible, Anthony Jackson worked with him at Mikells/NYC and took him on the road with the Simon/Garfunkel tour that landed in over 30 stadiums in the US. Weckl then worked with Chick Coreafor many years. Incredible Drummer. To this day, Dave Weckl was the only drummer I ever met in the business that used to bring his own sound system to gigs around town because he was so meticulous about his sound. Now he's one of the most respected having been recognized by the great Chick Corea.

*

Billboard #5 Contemporary Jazz CD (1992)
When I got the call to do Grover BY Grover, in hindsight, that was real incredible. He would hook me
up with tickets when he came to town (NY and Atlanta) and had the misfortune to miss GW when he played at the Peekskill Paramount, just minutes from my family. He passed away only a few weeks later, but G was a great manand employer for many musicians for years.

*

1992 - Meadows, Marion - Keep It Right There
Bass, Percussion, Arranger, Drums, Keyboards, Producer, drum programming
Billboard #7 Contemporary Jazz CD (1992)
Marion and I met in 1984 when I was hired to replace an music for a pretty popular artist.
We got stuck down there because Mr. Artist (whom I'll leave nameless) didn't pay the band their
money. Some of the cats were happy to get their room and board covered because we were in St. Croix.
One guy married a gal there, another cat threw his amp in the ocean. I packed my 80 pound fender rhodes up and went back home and enrolled back in college as my first gig was an eye-opener!

*

1993 - Pieces of a Dream - In Flight
Songs - "Quiet Passion" and "In the Print"
Bass, Piano, Strings, Drums, Keyboards, Producer
Billboard top-20 Contemporary Jazz CD (1993)
The great James Lloyd took a break from POAD and I had the opportunity to work with
the guys briefly and it was an honor.  Pulled in Marion Meadows on this and re-made a tune by Pianist
Onaje Allan Gumbs.

*

1993 - Downing, Will - A Dream Fulfilled
Co-Writer "She" with Porter Carroll, II
I was honored to play on one of WIll's first big records in the US!  We met at a
tribute to Yogi Horton, one of Luther's earlier tour drummers from NY who committed suicide
and left behind 3 beautiful children.  It was there where I met WIll and there began a working relationship
that began with this tune co-written by Porter Carroll.

*

1993 - Downing, Will - Love's The Place To Be

It was here I met the great bassist, Mr. Anthony Jackson, who laid down the meanest bass lines for Quincy Jones ("Sounds and Stuff Like That"), as well as on Chaka Khan's "Clouds" and his work with Argentinian Pianist Michel Camilo down at Mikells.  AJ brough his own bass amp and the way I watched him record was great.

*

1995 - Meadows, Marion - Body Rhythm
Producer on "South Beach" and 5 others.
Want to hear a funny one?  RCA at the time was going thru some transitions and the most amazing thing happened. This record by Marion was one of the five most sold discs on their entire label in 1995. Even he was shocked to find that out.  That happens about as much as a jazz cat winning a Grammy for best album of the year.

*

1996 - Kut Klose - "You're Just a Lovely Thing"
Remix Producer - originally produced by Lisa "Left Eye"
I had a chance to meet Lisa. A very beautiful spirit and was the energy behind the group TLC.
Her life was suddenly shortened by that auto crash during her formative years as a producer.
